Anal canal
The anal canal is the terminal part of the large intestine, connecting the rectum to the anus. It plays a crucial role in defecation, the process of eliminating waste from the body. The canal is lined with mucous membrane, which helps in lubrication and protection during the passage of feces. It also contains anal sphincters, muscles that control the release of feces. Hemorrhoids, tears in the lining called anal fissures, and infections can affect the anal canal, causing discomfort and difficulty in bowel movements. Proper hygiene and dietary habits are essential for maintaining the health of the anal canal.
