Kidney
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the spine, just below the rib cage. They play a crucial role in filtering blood, removing waste, and balancing electrolytes. Each kidney contains about a million nephrons, the functional units that filter blood. They also regulate blood pressure, produce erythropoietin for red blood cell production, and activate vitamin D for bone health. Kidneys maintain homeostasis by regulating fluid balance and excreting urine. Kidney dysfunction can lead to conditions like chronic kidney disease, which may require dialysis or transplantation. Maintaining kidney health is vital for overall well-being.
