Greek architects erect the first peripteral Doric and Ionic temples
religious actives happened outside of the temple and statues were
placed outside, east side of the temple
temple itself was the residence place for god or goddess rather than
gathering place for worship
had a bird’s eye blueprint plan
peripteral colonnade: continuous columns going all around the temple
Cella (Naos): statue of the deity
Elevation: schematic view of the facade
Doric VS Ionic
differ in capital with its columns and with the form of frieze
Doric: columns are more plain and sturdy looking; frieze trig rips
and the meta piece
Ionic: more decorative and delicate looking; capital with the two
wing looking scroll on both sides
flut: vertical lines on the pillar

both painted
early greek temples were painted and featured saturated vibrant color
Greek sculptors carve life-size stone statues with “Archaic smiles”
Kouros (pl kouroi): if a young men died a heroic death in honor of that
person’s memory statues would be commissioned
It stands beside his burial site
Kroisos kouros is more accurate and the head is more proportionate
