How has group fitness continued to evolve? - ANS-The fitness business is in its infancy.
Only been around for 30 years. Very rewarding career. The profession has continued to
develop its standard of care and refine its scope of practice with the help of education
and certification organizations, such as ACE.
What is the group fitness instructor's role in the allied health-care continuum? -
ANS-Work with apparently healthy participants, helping them improve fitness and
health. Foster an environment that promotes motivation and adherence to exercise.
What is a professional certification? - ANS-A voluntary process by which a
non-governmental body, such as ACE, grants a time-limited recognition and use of a
credential to individuals who have demonstrated that they have met the criteria for
required knowledge, skills, or competencies for safe and effective practice in a specific
job role.
What is a certificate? - ANS-Education or training program on a specific topic for which
participants receive a certificate after attendance and/or completion of the coursework.
What is the GFI's role and scope of practice? - ANS--Developing and leading exercise
classes that are safe, effective, and appropriate for individuals who are apparently
healthy/have medical clearance to exercise
-Conducting pre-class assessments and health screenings to give referrals and identify
contraindications to exercise
-Construct classes that are appropriate for the audience and goals for the class using
protocols
-Assisting participants in setting and achieving realistic fitness goals
-Teaching correct methods + progressions through demonstration, explanation, and
proper cueing and exercise leadership techniques
-Teach the class how to measure exercise intensity with HR, perceived exertion, and
