Introduction

Religion has been one of the major influence in the lives of humans for a long time. It

thus influences peoples beliefs, values and also their behaviors’ . Throughout the ages, conflicts

and peace processes have been impacted by religion, a source of division amongst people and a

means of reconciliation. The attention of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to the role of

Religion and religious actors in conflict and peace-building contexts has grown. This article

analyses the relationship between religion, conflicts, and peacemaking. By examining the

involvement of religion in different conflict resolutions and peace building processes.

The second part covers the function of religion in peace building procedures. It thus

examines how religion can act as a driver of peace therefore using dialogue among different

faiths. It provides case studies demonstrating the dynamic interaction between religion and

Conflict. It, therefore, includes case studies that aim to illustrate how religion and conflict

interconnect in a complex way. These case studies will show how religion causes conflict in

different ways in society; real-life cases will help us illustrate this relationship.

The next part covers some real-life cases, builds a theoretical ground, and shows the

interaction between religion and conflict. Some real-life instances include the Israel-Palestine

Conflict. The Jews and Christians are constantly at war because of their religious differences and

their different faiths. Another example is the Northern Ireland conflict, known as the division

between the protestant unionist community, who identify as the British, and the catholic

nationalist community, who identify themselves as the Irish. Religion is a significant factor that

contributes to conflict. This paper will examine the importance of religious actors in

peacebuilding and how religious leaders and faith-based organizations contribute to

peacebuilding processes..

associated with ethnic, political, and socioeconomic tensions, complicating the conflicts'

dynamics. Confrontations between religious groups frequently result from the collision of

different teachings about Religion, rituals, or even the same scripture. Disputes may be caused

by disagreements over religious practices and ownership of sacred sites, leading to physical

conflict. Religious conflict may be influenced by the feeling of religion being better. Some inter-

ethnic and ethnoreligious conflicts involve the interaction between religious and ethnic identities.

When religious and ethnic identities are intertwined, conflicts tend to take on a more chronic

struggle, often relying on historical grievances and memories. In such instances, religious and

religious images can be used to enhance unity and increase the intensity of Conflict between

groups.

Religious Identity and Ethno-Religious Conflicts

Ethno-religious aggressions, for example, the one that took place in the collapsed

Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, India, and Pakistan, prove the connection between Religion and

conflicts. These conflicts often connect with the variations of inner-communal groups with

distinct religions reflecting ethnic groups. According to Cesari (2021), religious identities
