Guidance notes for completing knowledge questions for the
following unit.
Important: These notes are for guidance and the answers should be put into

AUEC2-005 Producing components using hand fitting

K1 Describe the health and safety requirements and safe working practices
and procedures required for the hand fitting activities undertaken
In your answer you must mention following all warning signs and wearing any
mandatory PPE plus that appropriate to the task. You must also mention only
using machinery and attempting tasks that you have received training for. Must
mention that you must check the condition of all tools and equipment before
use and not misuse or deliberately damage any tools, equipment or machinery.
K2 Explain the importance of wearing appropriate protective clothing and
equipment (PPE), and of keeping the work area safe and tidy
In your answer you must mention that mandatory PPE must be worn at all
times. Then mention individual items of PPE and what they are protecting
you from. Also mention why the work area must be kept clean and tidy
such as to prevent slips, trips and falls.
K3 State the hazards associated with the hand fitting activities (such as use of
power tools, trailing leads or hoses, damaged or badly maintained tools and
equipment, using files with damaged or poor fitting handles), and how they
can be minimised
In your answer you must mention following COSHH procedures and reading
labels on substances you are going to use. Specifically relate answer to the
possibility of contracting Weil’s disease from handling steel stock or Dermatitis
from handling coolant oil etc. Also, what can be consequences of using
damaged tools, misuse of tools or machinery and how to minimise these
hazards.
