Absent seizure - ✅✅ --brief; lasts seconds; pt may or may not lose
consciousness
-May occur several times during the day
-Appears to be daydreaming
-More common in children

AC joint test -
Acromioclavicular joint separations - ✅✅-1) stretched ligaments- no
displacement
2) some ligaments tear
3) complete avulsion, clavicle goes anteriorly
Acute gouty arthritis - ✅✅--metatarsophalangeal joint of big toe
-pain/red/tender/hot
-mistaken for cellulitis
✅✅-S1
Ankle reflex -
Anterior drawer test - ✅✅--assesses ACL tear
-sit on foot
Anterior drawer test (ankle) - ✅✅--tests AITFL ligament
Apley scratch test - ✅✅--tests overall shoulder rotation
-reach up and touch scapula (abduction and external rotation)
-reach down and touch scapula (adduction and internal rotation)
Asterixis -✅✅ --flapping tremor
-abnl function in diencephalic motor centers
, Babinski's sign - ✅✅ --sign of cervical cord compression
-toes should curl in normally, + sign is toes spread out
Back pain off midline - ✅✅-muscle strain, myofascial pain, sacroiliitis, hip
arthritis
Balloon sign - ✅✅
--MAJOR effusion of fluid in knee
-compress suprapatellar pouch against femur, feel for fluid entering spaces
next to patella
Ballottement sign - ✅✅ --Checks for effusion in knee
-Push patella against femur
-positive test is patella waving motion/spongy joint feeling
-Compare on opposite knee
Best predictor of hip fracture - ✅✅-DEXA measurement of femoral neck
Biceps reflex - ✅✅-C5-C6
Bouchard nodes vs Heberden nodes - ✅✅-Bouchard: PIP, see in RA
Heberden: DIP, see in OA

-hand on suprapatellar pouch and milk fluid downward, tap behind patella
margin for fluid wave
Bursas of the hip - ✅✅ -trochanteric, ischiogluteal
-trochanteric bursitis most common
