BHEV 4010 Exam 1
Explain what Skinner meant by the term, "functional analysis". - ANS-Functional
analysis is the external variables of a behavior, but most importantly how these external
variables, or antecedents, correlate with the behavior that we are observing.
Prediction - ANS-Specifying the occurrence of some event based on one's past
experience with similar events
Control - ANS-Arranging the conditions responsible for some event
Description - ANS-The knowledge of an event of phenomenon that allows us to being
forming hypotheses or predictions of research
The six attitudes of science - ANS-Empirical, Objective, Self-Correcting, Progressive,
Tentative, Parsimonious
Empirical - ANS-based on observation or experience
Objective - ANS-involves the evaluation and description of natural phenomenon that
can be observed by more than one person
Self-Correcting - ANS-beliefs and opinions can be changed given new findings (maybe)
Progressive - ANS-increase in amount and quality of knowledge
Tentative - ANS-carefully constructed claims of knowledge
Parsimonious - ANS-uses the simplest explanation possible to explain natural
phenomenon
What consequence was most likely to follow problem behavior? Why not
demand/escape or tangible? - ANS-Attention was most likely to be follow problem
behavior. The delivery of tangible items were rarely presented following the problem
behavior during the descriptive analysis and the participants did not show problem
behavior during the delivery of demand.
Anecdotal assessments analysis - How they were conducted? What they show? What s
their reliability/validity? - ANS-Anecdotal, or indirect, assessment involves the use of
