influenced the advancement of nursing, nursing education, and nursing roles that are now part of the
contemporary nursing profession.
Nursing has changed over time from nurses being called witches till now where a nurse is being a
leader and the best caring occupation. During the Era of Christianity, men were seen to be the
caregivers and nursing was a religious vocation (Witney, 2018). Yet, overcoming the speculations of
nursing being evil, nurses had to work together to care for the sick or the ones in pain. Time has
changed from the time when Florence Nightingale used her pillars to assist with the sick during the
Crimean War till now that we have multiple area of education and follow evidence-based practice
(EBP). Yes, Florence Nightingale was a founder in nursing which then lead to the trying to be there for
the sick. Soon after, nursing was migrated to the United States (US) where we had our own nursing
founders. In the late 18th century the US also had their own founders in nursing. It began with Lillian
Ward, Mary Brewster and Lina Rogers which they all had a different part in establishing nursing in the
US. Ward and Brewster both lead a House that would care for the poor to provide medical care and
social services to the poor on the Lower East Side of Manhattan (Witeny, 2018). As time laps, education
and nursing role has changed tremendous from discrimination till now that we are seeing a change in
advance nursing. Schooling was very limited and now we have several opportunities to become a nurse.
From the first ADN nursing program that was started by Midred Montag which are being taught by local
community colleges or hospital-based programs. Now, nurses are starting to advance their education
with online baccalaureate programs and evening becoming advance nurses. Even, material equipment
has changed from using leather/ metal to now using latex free materials to prevent an acute allergic
reaction as proven from EBP findings. What we all have in common here is that we have to remember
that it was our founders in nursing that have pavemented our present nursing practice.
