Definition
Centrifugation is unit operation employed for separating the constituents present in a
dispersion with the aid of centrifugal force.
Objectives of centrifugation
To separate crystalline drugs from the mother liquor.
To separate proteinaceous drugs and macromolecules which are present as colloidal
dispersion from water.
To separate drugs present in biological fluids for conducting the evaluation of
pharmacokinetic parameters and bioequivalence studies.
To evaluate the stability of suspensions and emuslsions.
To determine the molecular weight of colloids
