Colonialism
One foreign power has political and economic control over another territory, often
imposing its culture upon this other territory and exploiting its resources for its own
gain.
How does Maldonado-Torres teach the theory of coloniality?
According to Maldonado-Torres, coloniality is not to be used like one uses
"colonialism" by naming it an alternative definition of colonialism. Coloniality
elucidates the long life of colonialism that gets inscribed in social, cultural, and
scientific knowledge despite political independence.
Differentiate between colonialism and coloniality.
Colonialism is defined as direct political and economic domination by a foreign
power, while coloniality is that ongoing ways of power and culture that continue in
place past formal colonial rule.

Sketch the socialhistorical background of colonialism and colonialityin the south
African context.
Well, colonialism in South Africa really started in bits with the Dutch settlement
during the 17th century and was followed up by British control in the 19th century.
That has had a sociohistorical impact in regards to racial segregation, the creation of
apartheid, and more so, the native suppression of culture, evident in social
inequalities and cultural marginalization in the present pathetic state.
Do you feel the colonial policies implemented by the European powers were
justified? Give reasons.
This is a very personal question that one can argue the other way around: colonial
policies do nothing but ruin the local cultures and economies, with requests for th e
rights and self-determination of indigenous people.
Why does apartheid endure as a structural feature in contemporary South Africa?
