Hybrid Working
Introduction
Thesis Statement: Most businesses should adopt hybrid working in the future because it can
reduce operation costs, increase productivity and induce inclusion and diversity in the workplace.
Arguments for
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies have adopted the hybrid system to
enhance business continuity in times of unforeseen challenges. As such, these companies have
looked to reduce expenses on rent and other operations costs. A hybrid working system involves
blending activities by working from home or at the office, it can help reduce costs from less
office space and other expenses. Companies can cut costs on rent, office supplies, utilities, and
other expenses, allowing for additional funds to invest in other company sectors. The trends to
adopt a hybrid system have been evident in the recent past, where the total market value of office
buildings in New York City decreased by $28.6 billion in the Financial Year 2022 (The Office of
the State Deputy Comptroller for the City of New York, 2021).
Additionally, hybrid working can raise employee productivity. Working from home has
been recorded to lead to an improved work balance hence increasing productivity. Schawbel
(2021) explains that improved work-life balance enhances control over work schedules,
decreasing employee stress. Similarly, the Covid-19 pandemic saw companies adopt the hybrid
working system to enhance continuity. While using a flexible working system, employees can
concentrate on their work and complete things more quickly due to fewer interruptions, more
flexible schedules, and the freedom to work in a comfortable atmosphere that matches their
needs (Schawbel, 2021).
