utmb questions
What is the most important part about your personal statement - correct answer-My great
grandmother's nurse. She definitely inspired me and is the reason why I am here now. SHe
made me realized how impactful and important this career is. Without knowing, she was the
reason for the decisions I made through my educational career. As the first child of
immigrants, my parents were very wary about what I do outside of school and what I decide
to do with my future because of all they have done for me such as moving to another country
across the globe for a better future for me. I was raised with many boundaries but because
of my sparked passion, i realized that it is something that I need to defend and work for. I
joined organizations and held leadership positions to build my confidence and experience as
a leader as well as a follower. In addition, i branched out and applied for a volunteering
position at memorial hermann and volunteered for 100+ hours at the hospital to help as well
as to have an understanding of how the hospital worked. Long story short, she was such an
inspiration and I doubt that she knew of the impact that she has had on me, but I am so
unbelievably grateful for coming across such an amazing nurse like her.
What are some of your obligations outside of school - correct answer-My family: as the
oldest sibling in the family, after work and school, I have to take on the responsibilities of
almost a mother to my two younger siblings. My mother would stay at the house and we
would switch out almost once I get home and she goes to run errands. I take on some of her
responsibilities because it's the summer and the kids are home all the time now so it's nice
for her to have a little time to herself.
my job: I work at a daycare and summer camp at a church near where I live. My
responsibilities consists of providing activities, feeding the kids, making sure the diapers are
clean, and letting them have fun while keeping them out of harm's way.
How will you change your study habits to compliment the rigorous program - correct
answer-I am only focused on school. I won't be working on the side during my time at school
and I will no longer be focused on the extracurricular activities that I was in at the University
of Houston. Instead, of relying on professors to tell me what to do and when to do it, I will
have a set schedule and stay on top and ahead of my school work in order to not fall behind.
I understand that the nursing program is a fast-paced, 15 month program so I must put forth
more effort and time to succeed.
What do you like to do on your down time - correct answer-Quality time spent with family and
friends, volunteer, paint and do crafts, work out, and play piano and the flute
Who is your support network - correct answer-Definitely my family, boyfriend, and close
friends. At first I was always afraid of being liked by everyone and wanted everyone to be my
friend. I would always try to branch out and do things for others without asking for anything in
return. At one point in my life, I kind of felt lost and alone because I have so many "friends"
but i did not have the connection and love that i wanted back in return. I realized that you
can't always get along with everyone and sometimes you just have to put yourself first since
