1.2 Identify the function of the following hormones: (4 points)
a. Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH): responsible for promoting sexual
development by stimulating the secretion of LH and FSH
b. Follicle stimulating hormone: helps control menstrual cycles and production of eggs by
the ovries
c. Luteinizing hormone – Stimulates the interstitial cells of Leydig to produce androgenic
hormones/testosterone.
d. Inhibin – in males, inhibin acts to reduce FSH release from the anterior pituitary gland
e. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – responsible for the same effects as testosterone, but plays
more significant role in the development of secondary sexual characteristics, including
