Mechanics of Deformable Bodies
Mechanics of materials is a study of the relationship between the external loads applied to a body and the stress and strain caused by the internal loads within the body. This is an important course in Civil Engineering because it is the foundation of design subjects such as Reinforced Concrete Design and Steel Design. Coverage: - Review on Statics of Rigid Bodies - Simple Stresses (Normal, Shear & Bearing) - Thin Walled Cylinders - Strain (Hooke's Law) - Thermal Stress and Thermal Strain - Shear and Moment Diagram - Moving Loads - Flexural Stress on Beams - Shearing Stress on Beams - Combined Flexure & Shearing Stress - Combined Axial & Flexure Stress - Floor Framing Analysis - Beam Deflection (Introduction to Geometrical Methods) - Torsion - Flanged Bolt Couplings - Eccentrically Loaded Rivets
