Approver - ANS-signatory
a user gives the authority to approve transactions and submits them to the next level of
approval authority, a reviewer or ad hoc.
they have the ability to approve, deny with comments, or recycle.

in IPPS-A, this is the department of the army including all components: active army,
National Guard, and Reserve
delegator - ANS-commander/approver may designate (i.e., proxy) their approval
authority to another member who acts as a delegate or proxy for the approver

this cancels the transaction and the initiator is notified of the decision. comments are
required on a denied transaction.
department - ANS-unit identification code (UIC)
a six character alphanumeric code that uniquely identifies each department of defense
entity. the first character is the service identifier (W=army), the next 3 characters
indicate parent unit designator (I.e.: alphabetic indicates MTOE units) and the last 2 are
the descriptive designator (i.e.: AO = Alpha company)
Department Security Tree - ANS-organizational hierarchy for administrative Control
the security structure controlling system permissions. a department is a node on this. if
a user has access to a specific nod, they will also have access to the node below it in
the tree structure
Dual Persona User - ANS-members who have 2 CACs.
a user that is current army national guard or army reserve soldier and is also either a
government civilian or contractor with a POI record. these users will need an additional
record as a POI within IPPS-A in order to separate both their job status and functions
within IPPS-A
Dual Role User - ANS-a user who is an army national guard or Army reserve member
with 2 job functions, and one CAC.
they will need their roles separated by their job function when they login to IPPS-A
effective date - ANS-a method of dating information in IPPS-A and determines the start
day of pay for grade changes. in IPPS-A, this is used to represent date of rank/grade,
date of appointment, date of transfer, date of hire or date a transation was applied to a
member record. The user can predate information to add historical data to the system or
postdate information in order to enter it before it goes into effect
