Scope of Practice - ANS-The range of clinical procedures and activities that are allowed
by law for a profession
Examples of Scope of Practice - ANS-- Screen/interview potential clients (may involve
getting consulting w/ their health care team)
- Getting medical clearance
- Perform fit tests to determine current level of fitness
- Set goals
- Develop programs
- Demonstrate/ Instruct techniques for safe exercise
- Monitor progress
- Be knowledgable resource
What Don't We Do? (Out of our Scope) - ANS-- Meal Planning
- Rehabilitation
ACSM/NCPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer (CIFT) - ANS-Works with people with
disabilities; leads safe, effective, adapted exercises
ACSM/ACS Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer (CET) - ANS-Trains those recently
diagnosed w/ cancer; have not yet begun, are recieving, or have completed treatment
ACSM/NSPAPPH Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist (PAPHS) - ANS--
Conducts needs assessments
- Plans, develops, & coordinates physical activity interventions
- local, state, & federal levels
Worksites - ANS-- Commercial (for-/not-for-profit)
- Corporate
- University
- Owner/Operator (self employed)
- Medical Fitness Centers
- Municipal /recreation /public parks/ family centers
- Govt. / Military
- Activity Centers / Retirement Centers / Asst. Living
