Could you live without social media? It would be a completely different life, that’s for sure. Social media has
taken the world by storm in the last couple of decades. Platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat have
taken over a big part of our daily lives. Since most of us are practically online 24/7, I’m wondering if it really is
as beneficial as a lot of people say it is.
When I wake up, the first thing I do is check my phone. For instance, to see if I have gotten any new likes on
the new picture I posted the day before. When I’m bored I check my Snapchat, Facebook and so on. If I
counted the number of hours I spend on my phone, I would probably be shocked. We waste so much time
following other people’s lives. Everybody wants to show the world how exciting their life is and how happy they
are. They only show the highlights and therefore we can’t see what life is really like for them.
Moreover, I think people can get very low self-esteem because of all these perfect posts. The absolute worst
part of social media is the amount of hate people get; it’s really easy to bully someone online.
Social media does make it a lot easier to communicate with people from all around the world. Making new
friends, finding a new love, chatting with your grandma over Facetime are all pro’s of the internet.
