Role of HRM in Organizations 1 | P a g e BUS 5511: Human Resource Management Human resource management practices have been occurring from centuries and have been dynamic since then to the globalization era today. Organizations utilize various resources in order to achieve the goals and objectives it has envisioned. Human resources or people are the key components of an organization who drives businesses to attain these specific objectives (Senyucel, 2009). However, the complex and diverse characteristics of people make it difficult for organizations to mobilize human resources, unlike other resources. In this context, human resource management plays a crucial role in the strategic organization and implementation of HR functions to create a productive and thriving workforce in business (Bianca, 2019). Generally, human resource management can be defined as an approach in managing employees through people-oriented management practices in order to create and maintain dedicated, loyal, skilful and committed workforce to obtain a competitive advantage in business (Senyucel, 2009). There are various models of HRM conceptualized by different authors that explain the roles of HRM in business. Some models of HRM are result oriented which focuses on quantitative and business-strategic aspects of managing human resources. On the other hand, there are HRM models which are people-oriented and focuses on the communication, motivation and leadership for human resources (Cakar, Bititci, & Macbryde, 2003). Contextual model of HRM This model emphasizes the importance of internal and external environmental factors affecting the performance of employee and organizations. This model focuses to built HRM strategies and frame HR policies considering and involving both internal and external factors (Sabry, n.d.). Michigan or Matching model The model was introduced in 1984 by Fombrun Tichy and Devanna. This model is a resultoriented model which focus on matching the skills of employees with the job.
