v Gout is a type of arthritis caused by deposition of monosodium urate
crystals in joints and soft tissues following chronic hyperuricamia.
v Uric acid is a normal waste product produced during the breakdown of
purines, substances found in certain foods and body tissues.
v When the body cannot eliminate uric acid efficiently, it can lead to the
formation of sharp, needle-like crystals in the joints, resulting in pain
and inflammation.
v Not all people with hyperuricaemia develop gout.
, INTRODUCTION
