The field of nutrition is wide with different beliefs and advises from different experts. This

makes it overwhelming and confusing for some people because they do not know what to take

and what to forego at the end. While some people try to follow their nutrition’s advice, some find

it hard or even lacking sufficient information and finally let it go. Others find it expensive.

In such a confused state, it’s hard for some people to balance between the food they love and

taking a balanced diet. Eating healthy means making and eating sensible nutritious food choices

which are low in fat and calories but not abandoning your favourite meal. However, favourite

meals like fries should be taken with moderation.

This article gives a guideline to some best nutrition advices in Kenya.

1. High fibre starchy carbohydrates

They are a great source of energy which are broken slowly in the body throughout the day.

Choose carbs high in fibre for they help in digestion and are crucial for heart health. Wholegrain

varieties like brown rice, brown bread, whole wheat pasta and potatoes with their skin are some

of the best sources. Serve a third of these wholesome carbs in your plate to achieve the best

results.

2. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables

These are like nutritional powerhouses with lots of nutritional benefits to the body. They contain

essential vitamins like Vitamin C, minerals Calcium, Phosphorous and Selenium Sodium among

others and fibre in large contents. They are low in calories too. Try to get at least five portions in
