21ST CENTURY LITERATURE FROM THE PHILIPPINES AND THE WORLD
LITERARY TEXT
LITERARY TEXT- refers to a piece of written material, such as a book or poem that has the
purpose of telling a story or entertaining.
CONTEXT- refers to the background, environment, setting, framework, or surroundings of events or
occurrences.
BIOGRAPHICAL CONTEXT- is a context about the author’s life being put into the context of his/her
literary works.
In writing Biographical context, 3 things to be considered are:
1. Author’s life
2. Author’s motivation in writing
3. Where the work is written
ABNKKBSNPLAko?!- Bob Ong (book/movie shares the life of the Filipino author Bob Ong which
describes his school days – his experiences on his first day of primary school to his disastrous university. )
LITERARY CONTEXT- refers to the words and sentences that surround any part of a discourse and helps
to determine its interpretation or meaning.
SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTEXT- literary context that topics societal problems such as poverty, climate
change, violence etc.
MILLIEU- Socio-cultural Context
MODESTY ASIDE- story that talks about dishonesty among the media and the main character, Miguel T.
Cuartana covers up some of the wrongdoings of the government officials in exchange of connections and
influence
LITERARY ADAPTATION
LITERARY ADAPTATION- means taking an existing story and reworking it into a different genre,
medium, or perhaps temporal context.
FILM ADAPTATION- refers to the transfer of work or story, in whole or in part, to a feature film.
FORMS OF MULTIMEDIA
1. TEXT- stored in processor files, spreadsheets, databases and annotations on more
general multimedia objects.
2. AUDIO- quite space intensive. One minute of sound can take up to 2-3 Mbs of space
3. GRAPHIC GRAPHICS- consists of special data structures used to define 2D and 3D shapes
through which we can define multimedia objects.
4. GRAPHIC- great variance in the quality and size of storage (Images file formats) for still
images
5. VIDEO- most space consuming multimedia data type is a digitalized video
6. ANIMATION- appearance of motion caused by displaying still images one after another
