Structure of DNA
Primary structure ( nucleotide, polynucleotide strand)
Secondary structure
Classes of DNA
Conclusion
INTRODUCTION
DNA is the basic unit of heredity and is the genetic material in one's body
i.e transmitted from one generation to other.
The first clue that DNA was the carrier of hereditary information came
from the experiment of transformation done by F. Griffith in 1928.
J. Watson and F. Crick in 1953 discovered the 3D structure of DNA.
PRIMARY STRUCTURE OF DNA
The primary structure of DNA refers to its nucleotide structure consisting
of string of nucleotides joined together by phosphodiester linkages.
[A] NUCLEOTIDE -
DNA is a polymer made up of many repeating units called nucleotide. The
nucleotide comprises of 3 components:
1. SUGAR:- The sugar of nucleic acid called pentose sugar has 5 Carbon
atoms, out of which 4 are joined by Oxygen to form a 5 sided ring.
