2. Which vertebrae (give the vertebrae number) correspond to each kidney hilus?
3. Are your kidneys on the same level? If not, what is the reason?
4. Using the cross sectional abdominal slice below, locate the abdominal cavity (with its viscera),
the parietal peritoneum, and the right and left kidneys. Note: all the adipose tissue surrounding
the kidney this is called the peri-renal fat. What function does it serve?
5. Are the kidneys anterior or posterior to the parietal peritoneum?
6. The kidneys are referred to as being retroperitoneal, what does this mean?
