DNA Replication
The process of DNA replication involves duplication of DNA, providing two copies of entire
genome.
This doubling of DNA is done in the S Phase of cell cycle.
DNA replication may occur in 3 modes-
a) Conservative mode
b) Semi conservative mode
c) Dispersive mode
The experiment of Meselson and Stahl proved that the DNA replication in prokaryotes and
eukaryotes occurs in semi conservative mode.
Enzymes involved in replication
1. DNA Helicase - DNA synthesis requires single stranded DNA as a template and thus
the enzyme DNA Helicase opens up the duplex at replication fork providing single stranded
template.
The Helicase moves in 5' - 3' direction on the lagging strand template.
