electromagnetic effects
the magnetic effect of an electric current
• when a current flows through a conduction wire (one with a current) a
magnetic field is produced around it
• the magnetic field is made up of concentric circles that get further apart
• the circles represent that there is no north or south poles
• to increase the strength of this magnetic field a current would have to be used
• the right hand rule is used to understand the directions
• to further increase the strength of the magnetic field around the wire it should
be wrapped around a solenoid
