Course Title: PMHNP Diagnosis and Management Across the Lifespan III
Credit Hours: 5
Prerequisites: MN551, MN552, MN553, MN660, MN661, MN662, MN663, MN664,
MN665, MN669, and completion of all core courses in the Master of
Science in Nursing
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose is to support transition to practice from PMHNP student to entry- level PMHNP role
and APRN independent practice. You will incorporate knowledge from prerequisite courses to
conclude your training to deliver comprehensive psychiatric mental health care, treatment and
management of psychiatric mental health disorders, medical organic brain disorders, substance
abuse problems, and complex co-occurring disease processes and disorders across the
lifespan. Emphasis is on APRN leadership, collaboration, health promotion, prevention,
professionalism, quality, and safety within the PMHNP role.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
MN667-1: Prepare for National Certification through successful completion of the Review
Diagnostic Readiness Examinations with understanding of scope of practice and
licensing requirements for various locations.
MN667-2: Differentiate between supervised, collaborative, and independent practice and its
effects on the Nurse Practitioner role, scope of practice, duties, and
responsibilities.
MN667-3: Formulate evidence-based, therapeutic, patient-centered treatment plans that
incorporate traditional and complementary pharmacological/non-pharmaceutical
interventions for mental health patients across the lifespan.
MN667-4: Construct age-appropriate mental health and physical health maintenance and
screening plans for patients across the lifespan with mental health disorders and
consider cultural, gender, ethnicity, spiritual, and social competencies.
MN667-5: Synthesize professional values and ethical/legal standards of the PMHNP role
with relation to client safety, outcome improvement and collaborative
relationships in the delivery of mental health care to patients across the lifespan.
