RESEARCH PROPOSAL WRITTING FORMAT
A) Title page
I) The title
Should include~
● The title should accurately represent the document's contents.
● It must be self-explanatory.
● Avoid redundant phrases like "a study of" or "an investigation of."
● Abbreviations are not allowed in the title.
● Italicize scientific names.
● The title must not exceed 20 words.
II) Author’s name and affiliation
● Sequence of names should be preferred as follows: begin with the first, then middle, and end
with the last name.
●Avoid using initials and opt for full names.
●Do not include titles such as Dr. in the names.
The affiliation must be clearly depicted, for example, 'A research proposal submitted in the
Department of ..., School of ...., to partially fulfill the prerequisites for obtaining the Master of
Science/Doctor of Philosophy degree in .... at northwest University school of Agriculture and
Technology.'
The year should be placed at the bottom of the caption.
B) Declaration: Should include both the candidate’s and the supervisor’s declaration and duly
signed.

D) The table of contents should be in title case and single-spaced. It should start on a new page
and provide a clear and quick overview of how the proposal is structured, helping the reader
understand the organization. Maintain consistency in using headings and subheadings.
● The chapter titles should be in caps and bold.
● The subheadings should follow each chapter title and should be in title case.
● Subheading of rows should be – Chapters & Pages indicated once at the top of each
column e.g.
