,THE CELL.
• It is the basic membrane bound unit that contains
the fundamental molecules of life and of which all
living things are composed (Bruce, 1999).
• Cells are the smallest structures capable of basic
life processes, such as:
• Taking in nutrients,
• Expelling waste, and
• Reproduction.
,• All living things are composed of cells.
• Bacteria,
• Yeast and
• Protozoa are unicellular. They consist of a
single cell.
• Plants,
• Animals, and
• Fungi are multicellular. They are composed
of a great many cells working in concert.
, Different Shapes of Cells
Cells exhibit a variety of shapes and sizes:
• Round.
• Square.
• Rectangular.
• Star shaped, and
• Irregular (can change shapes).
