, INTRODUCTION
• Any presentation other than the vertex can lead to difficulties in
labor
• These malpresentations may arise by chance or by maternal or fet
pathology
• Leading to increase mortality and morbidity to both mother and
baby
• This contributes to the death of one Nigerian woman every 13
minutes from preventable causes related to pregnancy and child
birth
• Which means 109 women die each day (Nigeria Health Watch, 20
, OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session students will be able to:
• Recognize when a fetus presents abnormally.
• Practice the skills needed to manage them.
• Conduct different forms of deliveries with confidence and
proficiency.
• Manage a woman with puerperal sepsis.
• Reduce the number of maternal deaths from complication
, FACE PRESENTATION
• Presentation refers to the part of the fetal body that leads
the way through the birth canal
• The head (vertex/cephalic) usually leads the way but it cou
sometimes be the buttock, face or shoulders
• If the part of the fetus presenting is abnormal, labor may b
difficult.
• The face presents when the head is one of complete
extension and the occiput in contact with the spine of the
baby.
