LESSON 1: TYPES OF TOURNAMENT (SINGLE ROUND ROBIN)

Tournament a series of games or contests that make up a single unit of competition (as
on a professional golf tour), the championship playoffs of a league or conference, or an
invitational event.
Tournament
A tournament is an organized competition in which many participant play with each other
in individual games. After each game, each participant is either dropped from the
tournament, or advances to play with a new opponent in the next "round." Usually, all the
rounds of the tournament lead up to the "finals," in which the only remaining participants
play, and the winner of the finals is the winner of the entire tournament.

Basic Diagram for System of Tournament

1. Single Round Robin (S.R.R.).
All teams entered in the competition shall play against each other.

LESSON 2: TYPES OF TOURNAMENT (SINGLE AND DOUBLE
ELIMINATION)
Bye
A player gets a bye when there is simply no opponent for him to play that round. Getting
a bye is considered fortunate for a player; he is guaranteed to advance to the next round.

1. Single Elimination (S.E.).
A team has to be defeated once in order to be eliminated.
Formula:
N=n–1
N = No. of games
n = No. of entries

2. Double Elimination (D.E.).
A team has to be beaten twice in order to be eliminated
Formula:
N = 2(n - 1)
N = No. of games
n = No. of entries

, LESSON 3: TEAM SPORTS (SPORTS AND EXERCISE)
A team sport includes any sport where individuals are organized into opposing teams
which compete to win. Team members act together towards a shared objective.

 Playing sports can make you stronger and healthier, contributing to lower obesity
rates. Athletes tend to have lower body mass indexes, but non athlete participants
will still benefit from developing muscles and burning calories.
 Active people tend to have lower rates of diabetes and high blood pressure.
Exercising regularly through sports programs could contribute to better heart and
lung function.
 Learning to play sports as a child might carry over into being a more active adult;
sports tend to have a more lasting impact from childhood into adulthood. In sports
such as gymnastics or diving, athletes tend to peak while still young and not
participate as adults.

Basketball is fun to watch:
Some of the world’s greatest athletes are basketball players. The game is fast-paced and
full of excitement and lots of scoring.

Basketball is an all-weather sport: Basketball is often played outside in parks or in
driveways, but is also a winter sport played indoors. So you can play basketball year

Basketball was invented in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts by Canadian physical
education instructor Dr. James Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than football
He invented the sport for indoors play at the YMCA during the Massachusetts winter.
The first game was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets for goals.
