The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a worldwide study of the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in nearly 80 nations of 15 year-old
students' scholastic performance on Mathematics, Science and Reading. The Philippines is 2nd
overall lowest in rank in Mathematics, Science and Reading.
What do you think caused the poor performance of the Filipino learners in the PISA? As
a teacher/school head, how can you address those concerns in order to improve the
performance of the learners in the core subjects, most especially now that we will be shifting to
remote teaching and learning?
Answer:
Maybe the cause of the poor performance in the Philippines is the socio economic
status of the family. And also lack of mismatch of the family. The student may affect their
mental due to malnourished, they can think well when they skip the meals before go to sleep.
The children or the learners should take their meals. To improve their performances in school.
We as a Teacher we are concern for the health of our learner. All school must have we so
called, feeding program so that all student/learner most especially the malnourished children
give them or supplying them a food so that they cannot feel starving. And at least they have a
energy. And lastly, during the lunch or after the lunch before the classes start, I will make a
remedial class so that all student who cannot catch the topic will not left behind.
