Economic Importance of the Zakat System:**

OR

The affect of zakat

1. Circulation of Wealth:

In capitalist economies, wealth mostly stays with a few rich people, leaving many poor. Islam
stops unfair wealth gathering and ensures poorer people get a legal share. This helps money move
from rich to poor, boosting demand, making more jobs, and growing the economy.

2. Just Distribution of Wealth:

- Payment of Zakat helps narrow the wealth gap between the rich and the poor, leading to an
improvement in the standard of living of poor . This improvement reduces friction between social
classes, fostering harmonious relations.

3. A Remedy for Unemployment:

- Zakat funds can be used to provide monetary grants for professionals to purchase tools of their
trade or for cultivators to acquire land for agriculture. Additionally, the Zakat system itself
generates employment opportunities, thereby addressing the issue of unemployment, which is a
significant economic challenge in the modern era.

4. National Assistance:

- The Zakat system provides economic security to the poor, destitute, and needy. It functions as
a cooperative society, an insurance company, a provident fund, and a means of livelihood for
various disadvantaged groups such as the disabled, the sick, orphans, widows, and the elderly.

5. Eradication of Poverty:

- Capitalism often leads to increasing poverty, with millions suffering while warehouses are filled
with unsold goods. The Zakat system empowers the poor by providing them with purchasing
power. Historical examples, such as during the time of Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (RA),
demonstrate how affluent individuals struggled to find recipients for Zakat assistance, highlighting
its effectiveness in alleviating poverty.
