The Preamble is the introduction to the Constitution and explained its ideas. The preamble states 6
purposes of a new constitution:
● “Form a more perfect union”
● “Establish justice”
● “Insure domestic tranquility”
● “Provide for common defenses”
● “Promote the general welfare”
● “Secure the blessings of liberty
, Article I
The first article of the Constitution focuses on the Legislative Branch of the government.
● Section 1 is a basic description of the Legislative Branch. It establishes Congress as a Senate
and a House of Representatives. It is responsible for writing and passing laws.
● Section 2 of the Article goes into detail about the House of Representatives. It sets minimum
requirements to be apart of it and establishes that members of the House of Representatives
are elected in two-year terms. It has proportional represent
● Section 3 describes the function of the Senate. There are 2 senators from each state which
means the senate has equal representation.
● Section 4 goes over how elections for senators and representatives are organized. The states
have the power to determine the time, place and manner of the elections, but congress has
the power to alter it. It also states that Congress shall assemble once a year.
