,Discuss the construction of DNA and cDNA
The construction of DNA
What is DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid)
It is the molecule inside cells that contains the genetic information responsible for the
development and functioning of an organism. DNA molecules allow this information to
passed from one generation to the next.
Composition of DNA/features of DNA
The DNA molecule is composed of units called nucleotides, and each nucleotide is com
of three different components such as sugar, phosphate groups and nitrogen bases.
To form a strand of DNA, nucleotides are linked into chains, with the phosphate and sug
groups alternating.
, Composition of DNA/features of DNA cont’…..
A phosphate backbone is the portion of the DNA double helix that provides structura
support to the molecule. The other remarkable thing about phosphate backbones is th
energy for producing the DNA polymer comes from the phosphate itself. So, when D
synthesized, there is an ATP, an energy molecule, that's part of the phosphate backbo
is used to link the DNA together
The DNA nitrogenous bases include; Adenine, Guanine, Thymine and Cytosine.
The sugar group in DNA is a deoxyribose.
DNA is made up of a double-stranded helix held together by weak hydrogen bonds.
