Introduction to Sociology
Sociology
- it comes from two words: “socious” which means society and “logos” which means
study.
- Science of society
Areas of Sociology:
1. Social Organization
- investigation of social groups, social institutions, social stratification and mobility.
2. Social Psychology
- study of human nature as the outcome of group life
- it studies how group behavior affects the individual and vice versa.
3. Social Change
- the study of change in culture and social problems.
4. Human Ecology
- it studies the behavior of a given population and its relationship to the group’s social
institution.
5. Population Studies
- this field is concerned with population count, change and quality.
6. Sociological Theory and Research
- concerned with the discovery, development and replication of research tools that will
test the applicability and usefulness of the principles.
7. Applied Sociology
- finding of pure sociological research may be applied to such various fields such as
marriage and family.
