Climate change and developmet

Introduction

Climate change refers to long-term shifts and alterations in temperature, weather
patterns, and atmospheric conditions on Earth. While climate change can occur
naturally, scientific evidence shows that recent trends are largely driven by human
activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial

, processes. These activities release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and
methane into the atmosphere, trapping heat and causing global temperatures to rise—a
phenomenon known as global warming.

The impacts of climate change are wide-ranging, affecting ecosystems, sea levels,
weather patterns, and human societies. Some of the key effects include more frequent
and severe heatwaves, changes in precipitation patterns leading to droughts and
floods, melting glaciers and ice caps, rising sea levels, and disruptions to ecosystems
and agriculture.

Addressing climate change requires a global effort to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, protect natural ecosystems, and
adapt to the changes that are already occurring.

Impacts of climate change

Climate change has far-reaching impacts across various sectors, affecting the
environment, economy, and society. Here are some key impacts:

1. Environmental Impacts:
- Rising Temperatures:

Global temperatures are increasing, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves.
This disrupts ecosystems and accelerates species extinction.

- Melting Ice and Rising Sea Levels:

Polar ice caps and glaciers are melting, causing sea levels to rise. This threatens
coastal cities, islands, and ecosystems.

- Extreme Weather Events:

Climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such
as hurricanes, floods, droughts, and wildfires.

- Ocean Acidification:

Increased CO2 levels lead to ocean acidification, which harms marine life,
particularly coral reefs and shellfish.
