THE FUNDAMENTAL
UNIT OF LIFE : CELL
Cell- It is the fundamental , structural
and functional unit of life.
, CELL DISCOVERY –
* Cell was firstly discovered by Robert hooke in
1665 and that was a dead cell taken from a cork
tissue of bark of an oak tree and further observed
by him through his self designed microscope.
* A living cell was discovered by Antonie van
leewenhooke in bacteria , protozoa ( pond) in
1674.
* Robert Brown discovered nucleus in 1831.
* Purkinge coined the term protoplasm.
CELL THEORY— Schledein ( botanist ) said, all plants are
made up of cells in 1838.
Theodore Schwann ( zoologist) said , all animals are made up
of cells in 1839.
Rudolf Virchow extended the cell theory by declaring one
statement “OMNIS -E CELLULA E CELLULA” which meant that
new cells arise from pre existing cells in 1855.
*Cells can be of any shape.*
