In an ideal world, a police department is honest enough to
avoid corruption and wrongdoing. Unfortunately, this is not
always true (Westmarland & Rowe, 2016).
When police officer finds illegal behavior in their
department, they must report a coworker. This is one of the
most apparent ethical problems in the criminal justice
system.
In this situation, the right thing to do is to report the
wrongdoing. However, some department employees may
see this as a betrayal since whistleblowing is rarely
received well (Søreide & Rose-Ackerman, 2018).
