Description
Perphenazine is a generic name, and Trilafon is the brand name for the antipsychotic
drug. Trilafon contains Amitriptyline and Perphenazine as an antipsychotic drug. According to
Rybakowski (2023), antipsychotic drugs are those that are prescribed to treat various mood
disorders and schizophrenia. The two principal users of antipsychotics include schizophrenia and
schizoaffective disorder.

The FDA approves Perphenazine to treat schizophrenia by alleviating symptoms such as
hallucinations and delusions. These medications affect the brain's neurotransmitters, such as
serotonin and dopamine. They can be prescribed to treat psychosis temporarily during an episode
or permanently prescribed to avoid symptoms. The FDA approves Perphenazine for the
treatment of schizophrenia and controlling severe nausea and vomiting in adults. Therefore, it
can be used as an antipsychotic as well as an antiemetic.
