State the need to activate the trauma team - ANSWER: trauma alert active

State the need to prepare the room - ANSWER: ensure all needed supplies are in the
room; ex: rapid infuser, chest trauma equipment

State the need to don personal protective equipment - ANSWER: PPE

Assess for obvious uncontrolled external hemorrhage - ANSWER: intervention: re-
prioritize to <C> ABC, if needed.

Assess level of consciousness using AVPU - ANSWER: Alert, Verbal Stimuli, Pain,
Unresponsive

State the need for a second person to provide cervical spinal stabilization AND
demonstrate manual opening of the airway using the jaw-thrust maneuver -
ANSWER: Maintain spinal immobilization; Proper jaw-thrust maneuver:

Demonstrate and describe techniques for determining the patency and protection of
the airway, using inspection, auscultation and palpation. - ANSWER: -Is the tongue
obstructing?
-Are there any loose or missing teeth?
-Are there any foreign objects?
-Is there any blood, vomitus, or other secretions?
-Is there edema?
-Is there any snoring, gurgling, or stidor?
(state at least FOUR)

States the need for a definitive airway - ANSWER: gather equipment to begin
intubation

Demonstrate and describe techniques for determining breathing effectiveness, using
components of inspection, auscultation, and palpation - ANSWER: -Is there
spontaneous breathing?
-Is there symmetrical chest rise?
-What are the depth, pattern, and rate of respirations?
-Is there increased work of breathing?
-What is the skin color?
-Are there open wounds or deformities? Is there subcutaneous emphysema?
-Is there any tracheal deviation or Jugular venous distention?
-Are the breath sounds present and equal?
