Considering that the patient had been suffering from domestic abuse, drug usage,
depression, and sexually transmitted diseases, few things ought to be considered before going for
the proper treatment. Appropriate strategies should be used, such as that of Suicidal/Depression
Risk Assessment and the psychological screening tool to reduce the memory reliance while
evaluating the patient's risk and avoid harm to the patient and others. Her depression is necessary
to be taken care of as it can cause newborn irritability, placental abruption, Preterm Delivery, and
Fetal Growth Restriction. A woman won't ever be able to take care of her baby if she cannot take
care of herself first. She needs to be mentally stable to take care of the baby, or she won't bring
the baby properly.
In the psychological tool, there are few questions to be asked regarding transportation,
jobs health. The patient should be asked if she is feeling safe where she lives. If she thinks that
someone has been trying to hit or harm her. (Ambat, 2018) She should be asked about her
companions who can assist her if she gets admitted to the hospital. Current stress levels should
be taken into consideration and the types of drugs she has been using. Also, she should be asked
if she is happy with the timing of the pregnancy.
It is crucial to know the patient's resources and support system to make a favorable
decision. The nurse should consider the whole scenario and do the counseling accordingly. If the
doctor thinks that the case is beyond his scope, he should refer the patient to the appropriate
addiction and domestic abuse resources. (Ambat, 2018) Also, it is essential to know more about
the personally held attitudes about the patients from the perspectives of social, cultural, ethnic
backgrounds and support the patient's case with the most promising approach. The approach for
this patient might differ from the other, which would help the patient recover faster. Some of the
