OPS-9: Network Architectures and SAN (N10-008))
1. Three-tier
-A common type of architecture that consists of:
archi- tecture
-Core tier
-Distribution tier
-Access tier
2. Core tier -Sometimes referred to as the 'center" of the
network
-This is where our major services are located
-We might have web servers, database servers,
applica- tions, name servers and other important
services
-Almost everybody in the organization will need
access to these services
3. Distribution tier -This is the midpoint between the core and the
users
-Users don't connect directly to the core
-It manages the communication between all of
the end users and the core of the network
-Provides a way for redundancy and control of
traffic into and out of the core
4. Access tier -This is where the users connect
-These is usually an access switch close by to where
those users are located
-It very common to have multiple access
switches on a floor, that floor would roll up to a
distribution switch, and that distribution switch
will provide access to the core
