Article Writing
An Article is a piece of writing on a particular topic intended for publication in a
newspaper, magazine or journal. It describes an experience, event, person or place;
presents an opinion or balanced argument; compares and contrasts; provides
information; and offers suggestions or advice. It may include amusing stories, reported
speech and descriptions. It can be formal or informal, depending on the target readers.
It is written in a less formal style than a report.
Since it is written for a wide readership, it has to be informative and thought-
provoking to attract the attention of the readers.
A good article should have the following elements:
1. An eye-catching title to attract the readers' attention and suggest the theme of the
article.
2. An introduction which defines the topic to be covered and keeps the readers' interest
intact.
3. The main body of two to five paragraphs in which the topic is further developed in
detail.
4. The conclusion, summarising the topic or giving a final opinion, recommendation or
comment.

Secularism VS Religion in Politics
Secularism implies equal respect for all religions in the same measure as we have for
our own. In our country, the liberty of "belief, faith and worship", as enshrined in the
Constitution, has been implemented by incorporating the Fundamental Rights of all
citizens to "freedom of religion" in Articles 25-29.
India is a land of multi-religious, multi-ethnic and multi-lingual people with a plethora
of castes and sub-castes. All the major religions in the country, viz., Hinduism, Islam,
Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism and Jainism teach their followers to imbibe faith in
God and love for human beings. Yet our people have developed peculiar attitude to
their own religion. Today, religion, the opiate of the masses, disintegrates people
through communal violence the behest of political parties and their unscrupulous
leaders. Religion as an ally of politics is fraught with danger.
The Constitution of India upholds the unity of all religions, based on their moral
precepts of building unity in diversity. This shows that India as a Secular State is
neither religious nor anti-religious; it is completely detached from all religious
dogmas.
The British created a rift between Hindus and Muslims that led to the partition of the
sub-continent in 1947. The rift has widened since then. Today, Ram Janmabhoomi-
Babri Masjid issue, 1993 Mumbai riots, recent riots in Delhi are there to spark off
communal violence. Such tendencies are drifting away people from the ideal of
secularism.
