P2) Explain the role of promotion within the marketing mix for a selected product/service.

Products

The Coca – Cola company has approximately a hundred products and some of their
main products are: Coca – Cola (Classical), Coca – Cola (Zero), Coca – Cola (Vanilla),
Coca – Cola (Life). Coca – Cola Vanilla was launched in 2002 and then they
relaunched the product in 2013. The newest product in Europe that Coca – Cola has
introduced is ViO Bio Limo in Germany. The new soda comes in two type of flavors,
orange (20 %) and lemon – lime (10 %). The Coca – Cola company has expanded
that much, that they are even producing water. However, the most successful
product is Coca – Cola Original.

Price

Coca – Cola product prices do vary around the world. For example, the price of 2
litters of Coca – Cola Original in Russia is £0.80. On the other hand, in United
Kingdom you can get the same product for £1.84. Therefore, the price of Products
set by Coca-Cola for its products depends on the economics of the country and the
value of the currency.

Place

The Coca – Cola company
advertises and sells its products
all over the world. For example,
during the winter holidays the
Coca – Cola company promotes
their products on the internet,
social media, TV and even radio.
In addition to that, the Coca –
Cola company is often a sponsor
for the major large events.
Therefore, the company has promoted themselves extremely well. For example, the
Coca – Cola company was one of the main sponsors for the Brazilin World Cup and
Sochi Winter Olympics. Coca – Cola products are popular everywhere around the
world. For example, you can buy their products in supermarkets, corner shops,
amazon, restaurants and cafes in many countries.


Packaging

The Coca – Cola company has four main products: Coca – Cola (classical), Coca
– Cola (zero), Coca – Cola (vanilla), Coca – Cola (life). However, apart from
these products the Coca – Cola Company also has another 113 products and
the company uses different packaging for them. For example, the Coca – Cola
company has a product called ‘Smart Water’ The packaging is different from
the traditional Coca – Cola drinks. Therefore, even if fizzy drinks become
unpopular, then the Coca – Cola Company will be still able to survive in the
market and make high sales. In addition to that, the Coca – Cola Company is
using for each product a different type of packaging. However, although the
