Compare and Contrast Two Mental Health Theories
We expect others (and ourselves) to behave in certain ways, and we seek explanations for
behavior that deviates from what we believe to be normal. (Varcarolis, E. M., 2017). What
causes a person to behave the way they do? Are some individuals more susceptible to suffer from
mental illness than others? How can professional identify mental illness? It was not until the late
1800s that psychological models and theories were conceived, developed, and disseminated into
mainstream thinking. They provided structure for considering developmental processes and
possible explanations for our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. (Varcarolis, E. M., 2017). As
healthcare professionals it is important to follow protocol, studies make by professionals and
evidence based-practice.With various theories arising from respectable members a better quality
of care can be given, education can be established, and interpersonal teams can be developed. The
theorists believed if complex workings of the mind could be understood they also could be
treated, and from these models and theories therapies evolved.(Varcarolis, E. M., 2017). It is
important to understand a patient in order to properly take care of them.Mental health
professionals continue to rely on theoretical models as a basis for understanding and treating
psychiatric alterations and mental health issues. (Varcarolis, E. M., 2017).There are many
theories from respectable psychologists and psychiatrist, and after reviewing the theories I will
be comparing and contrasting the interpersonal theory by Harry Stack Sullivan and the
therapeutic model by Carl Rogers.

American psychiatrist, believed that personality dynamics and disorders were caused primarily
by social forces and interpersonal situations. (Varcarolis, E. M., 2017).Where does Sullivan
