Ecology is the scientific study of the relationships between living organisms and their environment, focusing on the interrelationships between organisms and their environment. Originating from the Greek words 'Oikos' meaning house or place to live and 'logos' meaning knowledge, ecology is the study of organisms at home. Ecology is divided into animal ecology and' synecology', which study the structure and function of ecosystems. Populations are groups of organisms perpetuated through reproduction and recruitment, while animal ecology studies the geographical distribution, taxonomic position, and morphological characteristics of an individual. Synecology studies the groups of organisms in relation to their environment, including population ecology, community ecology, taxonomic ecology, human ecology, habitat ecology, and applied ecology. Understanding how biodiversity affects ecological function is crucial for the sustainable use of ecosystems and the survival of organisms.

Ecology
Introduction
Ecology has been argued that the sustainable use of ecosystem depends on ecological knowledge
and adaptive organization. Ecology is very important to the environment. Without suitable
ecology, no organisms can survive. Ecology is the scientific study of the relations that living
organisms have with respect to each other and their natural environment. Ecology is the sub
discipline of biology, the study of life. It is closely related to physiology, evolutionary biology,
and genetics. An understanding of how biodiversity affects ecological function is an important
focus in ecological studies.
Ecology
Ecology is the relation between organisms and their surrounding environment.
Aquatic ecology is the relation between aquatic organisms and their surrounding environment.
The Germen biologist Ernst Haeckel first proposed the word ecology in 1869.Ecology is
derived from the Greek word ‘Oikos’ meaning house or place to live and ‘logos’ means
knowledge. Literary, ecology is the study of organisms at home.
Ecology is defined as the study of the relation of organisms or groups of organisms to their
environment. Ecology is the science of interrelations between living organisms and their
environment.
According to Odum 1971,
Ecology is the structure and function of the ecosystem.
 By structure is meant:
I. The kinds, numbers, and distribution of plants and animals in nature.
II. The kinds, quantity, and distribution of abiotic components such as Oxygen, carbon
dioxide, water, sand, nitrates heat, sunlight, and so on.
 By function is meant:
I. The volume and rate at which various elements circulate though the ecosystem. The
quantity and rate of which energy flows through the ecosystem.
II. The process by which living organisms change their environment.
III. The process by which abiotic environment affects the living environment.
IV. Events by which population are regulated.
Population: A group of numbers of a particular species living in a particular habitat perpetuated
year after year through reproduction and recruitment is called population. E.g. Catla catla of
the Padma river is a population.
Division of Ecology: Ecology can be commonly divided into 1. animal ecology
2.plant ecology
