TERMINOLOGY ( OBSTETRICS )
Midwife: A person, typically a woman, who is trained to assist women in
childbirth.
Obstetrics: The field of study concentrated on pregnancy, childbirth, and
the postpartum period. As a medical specialty, obstetrics is combined with
gynaecology under the discipline called obstetrics and gynaecology, which is
surgical.
Midwifery: The knowledge necessary to perform the duties of midwife.
Gynaecology: The branch of medical science that deals with the disease of
the female genital organs.
Obstetrics: The branch of medicine which deals with the management of
pregnancy, labor , and puerperium
Reproduction: The process by which a fully developed offspring of its kind is
produced.
Pregnancy: The state of carrying a foetus inside the uterus by a woman
from conception to birth.
Gestation: Means pregnancy.
Gravida: State of pregnancy irrespective of its duration.
Nulligravida: Never pregnant
