Diaphragm: primary muscle for respiration. Usually involuntary but can be controlled voluntarily. Esophagus and great vessels pass through the diaphragm. Dome shaped until contraction during inhalation; moves down and expands the size of the thoracic cavity. Intercostal muscles.
