A computer has become an important and crucial part of every type of research it helps the
research in identifying the relevant sources of information through the internet. In addition, the
computer assists in maintaining record of data and processing it. It can perform various complex
tasks, such as creating charts, preparing tables and executing difficult calculations with
accuracy in less time. Let us understand the significance of computers in the field of research
with help of a scenario. Suppose you need to conduct a research to find out the reason the
lackluster sale of a new product in five cities of India (bharat). You have contacted 1000 people,
who have bought the product, in every city. In this case, you need to record the data colleted
from 5000 people in all cities. It is not easy to keep a record of such a huge database manually
efforts and time .In such a situation, if the researcher uses a computer, then the researcher can
accomplish all these tasks in the minimum possible time with more precicion and
merticulousness.
There are various sotware package, such as Biomedical package (BMDP), S - PLUS statistical
programming language), statistical analysis system (SAS) and statistical for the social sciences
(SPSS) that help a researcher in performing different statistical operations in an efficient
manner. These software package are used in every stage of research, including collecting,
storing recording and analyzing data. Therefore, as a researcher, you should be well acquainted
with the usage of different software packages to make the research a fruitful and useful
experience.
WHAT IS RESEARCH:-
The term research consists of two words:
Research = Research 'Re' means again and again and 'Search' means to find out something.
So research means to observe phenonmena again and again from different dimensions. For
instance there are many theories of learning due to the observation from different dimensions.
The research is a process of which a person observes the phenomena again and again and
collects the data and on the basis of the data the researcher draws some conclusions.
Research is oriented towards the discovery of relationship that exsits among phenomena of the
world in which welive. The fundamental assumption is that invariant relationship exists between
certain antecedents and certain consequencts so that under a specific set of conditions a
certain consequents can be expected to follow the introduction of a given antecedent."Research
is the manuplation of things concepts or symbols for the pupose generalizing to extend, correct
or verify knowledge whether that knowledge aids in the practice of an art
Research is an intellectual activity which focuses an establishing new knowledge and
discovering new truth concerning the basis of certain events with the purpose of furthering in
order to understand, predict or control the events of the world. Knowledge gained by research is
of highest order. It is not merely a knowledge of facts, but of underlying principles that explains
the how and why of the facts and events. Besides that, research has two other characterstics.
First, its result are verifiable, that is the conculsions arrived at by one person can be verified by
another And this is possible only when the collection of the data is objective and method of
analysis and interpretation of results are overtly stated and repeatable. Second, research
, follows what is called "the scientific method or procedure, which a akin to what Dewey calls the
thinking process"
OBJECTIVE OF RESEACH:-
Research primarily concerned with production of knowledge. The purpose of research is to
discover answers to through the application of scientific procedure. The main aim of research. is
to find out the truth. The main aim of research study has discovered as yet. Though each
research study has its own specific purpose, some objectives of research are as :-
1. To gain familiarity with a phenomenon or to achieve new insights into.
2. To portrary accurately the charctestics of a particular indiviual, situation or a group.
3. To determine the frequency with which something occurs or with which it is associated with
something else.
4. To test a hypothesis of a causal relationship between variable.
WHAT IS COMPUTER:-
A computer is an electrical machine that processes data, converting it into information that is
useful to people. Any computer regardless of its type is controlled by programmed instructions,
which give the machine a purpose and tel it what to do. In simple words we can define that
computer as an electronic device that takes input from its user, stores, processes data and
generates the requied output as per the processing instructions given by the user.
COMPUTER SYSTEM :-
A computer is an electronic device which can perform a varity of tasks assigned to it.
Computer does not perform any thing itselfly. But it follows sincerely the instructions supplied to
it. A computer can be broadly considered as having four main components (1) input unit (2)
central processing unit (3) memory unit and (4) output unit.
1. Input unit: The input unit allows the user to enter data as well as instructions to the main part
of the Computer. The input unit therefore acts as an interface between the user and the
computer.
2. Central Processing Unit: The main part of the Computer is known as the central processing
unit (CPU). It processes the data supplied to it as per instructions (programs). The CPU
comprises mainly of two units (1) Control unit (2) and arthmatic and logic unit (ALU). The
considered like the mind in a human body.
3. Memory Unit: The memory unit provides space for storing data as well as instructions. Before
their processing, the input data are also storing temporaring in the memory unit. During the
processing, the intermediate results as well as the final results, before sending them to the
output unit, are also stored in the memory unit. This also classified in two categories (1) primary
memory and (2) secondary memory.
